Firstly, the Covid 19 restrictions were lifted in Denmark on 1st Feb and will be in Sweden from 9th Feb. Norway saw their restrictions eased back on 1st Feb, too. This means that we are slowly and carefully resuming normal operations and are again available for visits on campus to discuss EdTech in person! Book a time to discuss a visit here We will also be attending BETT London 23-25 March (with masks) and having our own stand at SETTdagarna 26-28 april. We hope to see you soon!
Best,
RepresentEdTech
New cooperation:
We are thrilled to be cooperating with Beyond Labz to put their modern laboratory technology in the hands of science teachers in Scandinavia. Their virtual lab simulations allow students to explore, devise experiments, make mistakes, and learn in a safe, level appropriate setting. All of their virtual lab products include laboratory activities and lab books for students to record procedures, data, and to submit results.
Each lab supports hundreds of experiments
Labs can be used free form, or with the accompanying detailed procedure worksheets covering core curriculum topics (standards alignments: Chemistry, Biology, Physics)
Instructors can develop their own lab activities
Save and share lab setups and results, create assignments and unknowns, view and manage students and integrate with your LMS.
Students can really discover Chemistry and see how things react (or don’t react) and even perform some classic experiments that currently we only talk about. I think it is so much better, for example, for students to perform Rutherford’s experiment rather than just seeing a YouTube video about it.
Carter, High School Chemistry Teacher
Beyond Labz worksheets can be integrated with any LTI 1.0/1.1 compliant LMS. Beyond Labz will provide everything required for your school’s IT department to set up a global LMS Integration.
RepresentEdTech Pro-Tip: A step by step guide: How to implement Virtual Labs into Teaching Chemistry (Free white-paper. Eng.)
Applying new technology and getting to terms with perhaps unfamiliar processes that shake up the status quo can sometimes be perceived as a daunting task. It doesn’t have to be! Learn from the frontrunners and accelerate the learning possibilities of your students.
Getting your references right and your bibliography in good order when producing a longer paper is unfortunately not as straight forward as one would wish. At least until now. We are very pleased to be working with Citationsy to help make these kind of troubles a thing of the past! Citationsy is a referencing tool for people who value simplicity, privacy and speed. Search and cite any book in the world. Find and cite any academic paper ever published. Add collaborators and organise your research together. Perhaps the World’s Best Referencing Tool.
Do you want to provide access to Citationsy to a large group of students, pupils or researchers? Contact us!
RepresentEdTech Pro-Tip: OEBcast series
We would like to recommend the OEBcast series, sponsored by D2L, and an interesting upcoming seminar on the 24th February 13:00 CET
“How are universities managing the next phase of higher education’s digital transformation?”
Best practices for adopting new technologies to improve learning outcomes, forming better engagement with both staff and students – and the data and processes which are needed to deliver this. The seminar is hosted by Stewart Watts from D2L Europe, and the panel will feature speakers Ellen Bruck, Director of Learning and Teaching at University of Suffolk; Felix Kuijpers, Programme Manager Education Innovation with ICT at the Avans University of Applied Sciences; and Michelle Olmstead, Director of the Centre for Innovation at Leiden University.
Turnitin’s acclaimed Feedback Studio has a few new features you might like to see.
Turnitin Draft Coach™
Similarity checking and citation support for students while they draft in Google Docs™. Formative insights to help instructors provide feedback earlier in the writing process.
The Flags Panel
Auto-detect when a student has replaced characters, hidden characters, or otherwise manipulated text in their assignments to circumvent plagiarism checks.
With Turnitin Feedback Studio you can
Safeguard academic integrity – Combine cutting edge tools with curricular resources to deter plagiarism, teach the value of authentic writing, and protect your institution’s reputation.
Save time on grading and feedback – Empower instructors with commenting and grading tools that make the feedback process faster, easier, and more consistent. Use drag and drop quick marks or create your own, use grading matrixes/rubrics and record voice feedback/comments.
Measure student success at scale – Track and analyse student progress to inform instruction and support strategic initiatives throughout your institution
Deliver and Grade Your Assessments Anywhere. Gradescope helps you seamlessly administer and grade all of your assessments, whether online or in-class. Answer Groups & AI-assisted Grading* – Grade groups of similar answers at once. For some question types, Gradescope AI automatically forms groups for you to review.
“I once had an exam problem that probably would have taken an hour to grade by hand, but with the grouping, it only took me 10 minutes. The grouping feature helps me grade more quickly since I can categorize students’ answers that are similar and then grade each group at once.”
Ashley Berger, MATH, UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA
National Tests: using paper but want to stop drowning in paper?
Gradescope uses AI to help your teachers mark hundreds of answers fairly and in a fraction of the time. We can offer a short pilot licence that will cover National Test marking times in order for your organisation to really experience its full potential. Contact us to find out more!
*Answer Groups & AI-assisted Grading are part of Gradescope Complete.
RepresentEdTech Pro-Tip: A better (and more fun) way to learn. Brilliant!
Even though we do not have a formal relationship with Brilliant.org we feel that their course platform is so impressive that we feel we should still be spreading the word! Brilliant is a platform that visualises and makes maths and sciences REAL to students in a way that we have not seen elsewhere, including our own experiences from school. With apologies to the chalkboard skills of our maths teachers of old, this is hard to do on a blackboard. And this isn’t even one of the interactive courses.
With interactive and repeatable courses in Foundational Math, Software Development, Science, Fundamental Logic, Data Science, High School Math, Engineering, Statistics and Finance supplementing regular classroom teaching a large number of students are able to accelerate their learning, or for some – more importantly, perhaps – catch up on their learning!
Add your students to the 10 million people learning on Brilliant by bringing this fantastic platform into your physical or remote classroom with Brilliant’s free Education plan.
Join us for Lunchtime Learning: Accessibility in Moodle on 23 February 2022 at 10:00 GMT / 11:00 CET / 12:00 EET where we shall be joined by Gavin Henrick from Brickfield Education Labs.
During this Special Event you will learn
The importance of Accessibility for Moodle content,
Which issues to prioritise
How to improve the accessibility of your course content.
This session will be useful to you whether you have already started your journey to improve accessibility of your courses or if you are just starting out.
Brickfield provides an integrated compliance platform for Moodle-based Learning Management Systems to build a more effective and inclusive learning delivery by improving the accessibility and usability of the course materials. The platform helps organisations Find, Fix and Futureproof their learning content in their Moodle LMS
The lunchtime webinar will be in English with subtitles and is scheduled to take a maximum of 45 minutes.
